Impressions on the Search Console

The search performance report in the Search Console shows the number of times the website has been posted on the Google search results page, which is called “impressions”. How is this impression count?

Impression count timing

Impressions are the number of times your website link appears in Google search results. Whether or not this link is visible to the users, it is counted when the search results page containing the link has appeared to the users.

• If the site appears on the first page of the search results

In most cases, the links with the 1st to 10th search rankings will appear on the first page of the search results. For example, if you hit 10th place in the search ranking, the user will not be able to see it unless you scroll to the bottom of the page, but even if the user does not scroll to the bottom, the link still appears. The number of impressions is counted as “1”.

• If the site appears on the second page or after the second page

Impressions are not counted unless the user opened the second page or after the second-page search result. As long as the user opens the page, it counts as impressions even if the user doesn’t scroll to your site.

Note

  • The number of impressions of Search Console is counted only for Google search, not for other search engines such as Yahoo !.
  • Only URLs indexed by Google as regular pages can be counted.
